Choquequirao.com exists because the “other Machu Picchu” deserves better than a line in a Peru itinerary. It is an independent travel guide to Choquequirao, the Apurímac canyon, Cachora and Cusco — written to be genuinely useful before you go and while you are on the trail.
What we cover
- How to reach the trailhead from Cusco, with realistic journey times.
- The trek, day by day: distances, altitudes, campsites and difficulty.
- Which treks and Cusco tours are worth booking, ranked honestly.
- What to see at the site — from the ceremonial platform to the llama terraces.
- Where to sleep in Cusco and Cachora, and when to go.
How we research
Journey times, distances and practical details are checked against operators, transport companies, official sources and booking platforms, and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide. Where a figure moves around — ticket prices, mule fees, trail distances measured differently by different GPS devices — we give a range or say “around”, rather than pretending to a precision that does not exist.
Where we express an opinion, it is an opinion. We tell you when four days is too rushed, when a tour is poor value and when the cheaper option is the better one.
How the site is funded
We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and a Trip.com partner. If you book a tour or a room through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only way this guide is funded — there is no advertising, no sponsored placements and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
Corrections
Prices change, trails get rerouted, campsites change hands. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it. Write to us on the contact page.
